Tours and Trips

Our previous tours have been such a success and we’ve identified the great demand these kinds of group trips. Unfortunately, with the lockdowns and restrictions of the recent years we aren’t running them currently and are not sure about the future. Feel free to leave your contact information to hear from us when (if) they start up again.

Farm Tours and Alternative Building Tours

Political History Tour of Halifax [K’jipuktuk]

The last two tours we facilitated were a huge success! More are in the works. Sign up here to add your name to the waiting list and to find out about the next tours.

Are you interested in learning more about the History of Halifax [K’jipuktuk]? Are you tired of your text books, classrooms, tourism ads and excursions “white washing” our collective history?

This year NSPIRG and Our Risin have teamed up to offer you a Political History Tour of Halifax [K’jipuktuk] as part of Project ReConstruct. Join Our Rising for a bus tour and a facilitated discussion on the social and political struggles of this place- historic and contemporary! The tour will showcase the social justice work done by activists and communities, and the role students can play in supporting ongoing struggles for decolonization and social, economic and environmental justice. Expect conversations about anti-oppression, privilege, philosophy of history, activism, solidarity and unity.

The route will include stops at The People’s Park (formerly Cornwallis Park), Citadel Hill, the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre, Africville, Turtle Grove and more.

Bus pick-up and drop off is in on the corner of Seymore St. and University St. in front of the Dalhousie Student Union Building (6136 University Ave).

This tour is based on the gift economy. We will not exclude anyone based on their financial position and we do not believe in the ability of money to adequately express value. We choose to see this tour as a gift that will inspire return gifts. We gift this tour to you without expectation but with the hope that, if you learn and benefit from it, you will make a offering that can support tours in the future.
