Our Community Food Resilience Project aims to increase food security by running a mobile market, offering a mobile kitchen space for use by the community and creating educational opportunities for those wishing to learn about farming, preserving, cooking and food security. The project will start in East Hants, NS and aims to offer easy access to quality food in rural food deserts and to improve food literacy as a step towards having healthier, more resilient communities.
We’re really excited about this new project! In the next year we will be renovating a retired metro transit bus into a market that will travel to different communities in East Hants with a focus on food desserts. The market will offer quality, spray free, fresh, local and affordable vegetables and more to communities on a non profit basis. This means that some of the products will be offered by donation, some on a sliding scale and some with fixed prices.
We’ll be setting up a greenhouse and gardens to be able to grow food for the market.
And we’ll be fixing up a barn to process vegetables and host workshops.
We look forward to working with you to help this project grow and serve!
